Worcester was born of the coming together of two villages, Upper and Lower Worcester. It was on the evening of October 13, 1884 that the vote for consolidation was taken in Lower Worcester. The next day, on October 14th, 1884 at 8:00 pm, the vote for incorporation of Middleboro passed with an overwhelming majority of 586 to 68. Worcester was born. The celebration will include a variety of events including concerts, lectures by noted historians and scientists, parades and fireworks. There will be celebrations in both Upper and Lower Worcester as well as new Worcester's business district which is bounded by Vernon Street on the south end and Broadway on the north end.
