A White Umbrella was the first collection of essays. It was written by F. Hopkinson Smith in Mexico City during the spring of 1914. This novel is based on the author's experiences during his trip to Mexico to research a book about Mexican culture and society. The book features Smith's wit, observations, and insights about Mexican culture and society as well as his own experiences at the time; it also includes sketches of many of the places he visits.This is a cultural travelogue that provides readers with an insight into the social and political affairs of Mexico during the early part of the 20th century.
