Alexander Mackay: missionary hero of Uganda

Alexander Mackay worked in the East African country of Uganda for more than two decades, first as a missionary and then as the country's first bishop. Missions to Africa are not new to Mackay; he was born there in 1889 and spent his childhood among the local people. But his true passion lay in missionary work for Africa, where his missionary father had already served as an Anglican priest. A missionary from Uganda, was the first to use the term "sustainable development" to describe his vision of Africa. The idea behind sustainable development is simple: "use what you have now and let nature take care of the rest." From hand-washing to rainwater harvesting, he implemented sustainable practices in his mission field that are still widely used today.
