Ceremonies of the Pomo Indians

The ceremony of the Pomo Indians is one of the most moving accounts of life.The Pomo Indians are a Native American Indian tribe who live in Central Oregon, among whom they have their own language, culture and way of life. The ceremony describes the initiation into adulthood, marriage, inheritance and death. The ceremony had its origins in intertribal meetings between tribes on both sides of what is today's US - Canadian border. They are also known for their strong sense of family, personal sovereignty and community living. With each new generation, the Pomo people carefully prepare for this highly spiritual ritual. A ceremony will last about an hour or more with several ceremonies that take place over many years.
