Samuel W. Baker's Eight Years' Wanderings in Ceylon is an account of his travels through the island of Ceylon, which includes a number of his personal experiences and observations, covering such topics as the British occupation and its impact on the native population, Buddhist traditions and beliefs, life in the streets, local cuisine, and even an eye-witness account of a volcano eruption. The author begins by describing the various aspects of life in Ceylon such as religion, geography, and history. He then goes on to describe famous people from the land. Baker takes us from England to Ceylon in what seems like a day, but at such a pace that it is almost impossible to put down the book.
