Annie Besant was a British Theosophist, women's rights activist, writer and orator. She was the daughter of two well-known socialists, Anna Jameson and Walter Besant. She studied at the University of Heidelberg. For six years she worked as a lay preacher for the Theosophical Society. She became president of the society in 1907. Annie Besant wrote many books about gender issues, education, family life and spirituality. In the Outer Court.
