Regeneration: A Reply to Max Nordau

This rare and selected book was written by Nicholas Murray Butler, who served as president of Columbia University. He was a social theorist and philosopher, who wrote about philosophy and other topics in numerous publications throughout his life including the New York Times and Atlantic Monthly. In this book, Butler argues that "regeneration" is more necessary than ever today because of the rapid changes in society. The world has become too fast-paced for every generation to have their own "spiritual room.". The book also examines the many criticisms that Nordau made against the idea of human progress and presents a defense for its necessity.
