The Talmud is a collection of Jewish law and tradition. The Babylonian Talmud is the most important of the two Talmuds. It includes, in addition to halakha, or written law, a great deal of material about Jewish history and customs. This volume contains the text of the Jerusalem, or Palestinian, Talmud together with commentaries by Rashi and Tosafot.The Talmud was compiled in 200-500 CE and is a key text of Judaism. The book has two components: Mishnah (first written compendium of Judaism's oral law) and Gemara (discussion of Mishnah and related tannaitic writings, which often ventures onto other subjects).
