Description:

The struggle of Ecuadorian president Gabriel Garcia Moreno for his country's independence in the 19th century is told by the man himself, in letters to his wife. Don Gabriel Garcia Moreno was president of Ecuador in the 19th century when Spain was embroiled in revolution and civil war. This biography tells how he led his country to independence, while often fighting with his own people. Adolf von Berlichingen (1480-1562) was a knight and soldier who served under various commanders and mercenary forces at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th centuries. He was captured by Emperor Charles V and spent several years as a prisoner. After release, he became an important adviser to the emperor and finally entered imperial service.
