The Wisconsin Archeologist began in 1903 as the official publication of the Wisconsin Archeological Society. The first volume, containing only two issues, was published in January and April of 1903. It is a publication devoted to archeology and natural history research in Wisconsin. This volume contains four separate numbers, one for each month of 1903. The first number comprises articles on the remains of Fort Winnebago, the earthworks and burial mounds at Madison, and other topics. The second number has articles on the ancient lead mines of southern Wisconsin; on cemeteries in south-eastern Wisconsin; on two prehistoric effigy mounds at Little Falls.
