Daddy-Long-Legs

Daddy-Long-Legs is a 1912 epistolary novel written by Jean Webster, and is the story of Jerusha "Jerry" Abbott, a young orphan living in poverty with her stern Aunt Jane. Jerry writes letters about her family to an unknown benefactor who has been sending them money anonymously for years. One day, she received a reply from the unknown correspondent. His name is Jervis Pendleton. He is a handsome, sophisticated man from an old New England family who wants to marry Jerry and take care of her. They fall in love. However, at the last minute before their wedding, Jerry learns that Jervis has been disinherited by his father because he married a girl from a lower social class.
