The story of the "Bishop's maidens" is the most popular comedy play by Gerhart Hauptmann. The play was published in 1894 and is set in the 14th century. The story takes place in the small village of Schönfeld, where the young ladies are preparing for their confirmation. The village parson has an idea: to give them a taste of life in the big city so that they can decide whether or not they want to stay there. With this in mind, he sends them off to Berlin for a couple of weeks. They return with a much broader perspective on life and have made some new friends.
