The History of Tabaristán is a work of history started by Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Isfandiyár in the year A.H. 613 (A.D. 1216).This work is considered one of the most important sources for the study of Islamic culture and history in the Middle Ages, and has been translated into many languages including Arabic, French, English, German, Spanish, Russian and Italian. Al-Hasan B. Isfandiyár, the author, was a native and inhabitant of Tabaristán and held high and important offices in the chancery of the kingdom; he was also an accomplished poet and scholar, famous for his erudition and eloquence not only among his own countrymen but among men of letters throughout the world.
