Marianela

Marianela is a novel written by the prolific Spanish novelist Benito Pérez Galdós. The life of an orphan girl in 19th-century Madrid is vividly portrayed in this novel, which is the first work by the author to be translated into English. This story is one of courage, ambition, hope, and of the struggle to achieve an education. It's also a story about overcoming adversity and perservering through difficult times. The book is written from the perspective of various characters who are all members of Spanish society with varying social status. The original Spanish version was first published in serial form in La Epoca newspaper, and then in the form of a book.
