Description:

Orson Spencer was a writer and a prominent member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a nontrinitarian, Christian restorationist church.) He served in several high positions within the church and as an alderman in Nauvoo. In April 1843 he was sent to New Haven on a mission. Spencer was strongly convinced of the divine veracity of the Book of Mormon, so he was investigating Mormonism and trying to obtain as much information as he could about the items that questioned the faith. Spencer left an impressive legacy in his theological researches and influenced the formation of Latter-day Saint theology. William Muilder called Orson Spencer an example of a highly educated person that became a Mormon.
